SOCIAL WORKER POSITION  --  REIGH ALLEN CENTRE

 Minimum Qualifications: 

 ·        University degree at the Bachelor’s level in the area of Social Work

·        Registration with the appropriate professional association

·        Annual anti-oppressive theory training

·        Ongoing development of knowledge and skills

·        Training on an annual basis to meet or exceed the standards of their professional association

·        Meet or exceed the minimum requirements of the Province of Nova Scotia, Department of Community Services, Provincial Standards for Residential Child-Caring Facilities; Children and Family Services Act and Regulations;

 Definition of Terms:

 Care Management is the term used to describe the coordination for the care planning process which includes placement planning, family history and dynamics, behavioural and emotional concerns, academic needs, life skills and leisure planning, and physical health.

 Clinical is defined as precise analysis of systemic and interpersonal issues in the lives of youth and families and utilization of this analysis into each element of the care management process, including consultation, collaboration and implementation.

 POSITION SUMMARY

 The responsibility of the Social Worker Position – Reigh Allen Centre  (RAC)is to provide direction to the Youth Care Team and assistance to the Professional Staff while providing leadership to correctly position the social work, psychology  and program personnel to be able to deliver the highest level of care and services to the Clientele of ADCRF facilities.  As part of the Professional Team, the incumbent is expected to regularly attend and positively participate in committee meetings as needed.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 In all duties and responsibilities and any delegation of tasks, the incumbent is responsible to ensure that all matters under the Provincial Standards for Residential Child-Caring Facilities which fall under their responsibilities are routinely reviewed and that the Standards are met or exceeded.

1.      Provide leadership to and sharing of knowledge and/or training:

·        ADCRF social work, youth care and other staff as required

·        Clinical expertise to the RAC Youth Care team in consultation with Psychologist as necessary; provides clinical intervention with families as required in situations where therapeutic services are not currently in place

·        Mediation of conflict services between a resident and family in selected situations

·        As a positive, fully participatory member of the Central Region Placement Committee, ADCRF committees and external committees as required

 2.      Provide leadership and competence in and develop relationships with all the stake holders (youth, families, agency social worker, Psychologist): 

  1. Case Planning

 ·        Gathering of information from all available sources from the youth, family, agency social worker, school, therapists and other support services, previous care given and RAC Youth Care staff.

·        Sharing of information with RAC Youth Care staff, agency social worker, family, therapists and other support service providers [ie.; via log entries, written intake summaries, weekly case planing summaries, shift changes and team meetings, etc.]

·        Processing information – discussions with RAC Youth Care staff, agency social worker, family and others as needed to determine dynamics of current situation and strengths and needs of the youth and family

·        Exploring all options with all parties previously noted to determine a discharge plan and is to ensure that recommendations to all the above parties are contained within the discharge plan

·        Report writing as required [ie Emergency Placement Reports 

  1. Assessment  ---  works closely with Psychologist and the RAC Youth Care Team on the case planning process for all assessment cases

 WORKING CONDITIONS

 The work environment demands strong concentration and the ability to focus while maintaining a sensitivity and appreciation of the delicate balance required with the clientele.  Work hours are based upon client needs.  Must be able to work independently and under stressful conditions.  Working environment often requires sensitivity to cultural, societal differences and appropriate protocols.  Working conditions include physical, emotional and mental demands
