Minimum
Qualifications:
· University degree at the Bachelor’s Level in a helping profession with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a residential child-caring facility and a minimum of five (5) years’ supervisory experience
· Registration with the appropriate professional association of their area of human services
· Ongoing development of knowledge and skills
· Training on an annual basis to meet or exceed the standards of their professional association
· Meet or exceed the minimum requirements of the Province of Nova Scotia, Department of Community Services, Provincial Standards for Residential Child-Caring Facilities; Children and Family Services Act and Regulations;
POSITION
SUMMARY
The responsibility of the Coordinator of Youth Care is to provide leadership to correctly position the facility supervisors and youth care workers to be able to deliver the highest level of care and services to the Clientele of ADCRF facilities. As part of the Management Team, the incumbent is expected to regularly attend and positively participate in management committee meetings and actively participate in the future development of the Organization.
The incumbent may be required to actively work with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors or committees of the Association.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The incumbent is accountable to all standards and expectations of the Province of Nova Scotia:

· ADCRF Code of Conduct
· Code of Conduct or Ethics of their Professional Association

In all duties and responsibilities and any delegation of tasks, the incumbent is responsible to ensure that all matters under the Provincial Standards for Residential Child-Caring Facilities, the Children and Family Services Act and Regulations and other legislation related to children and youth, which fall under his/her responsibilities are routinely reviewed and that the Standards are met or exceeded. All programs and initiatives must be consistent with the philosophy of the Association.
1. Provide leadership to and supervision of:
· ADCRF facility supervisors
· ADCRF youth care workers
2. Provide leadership and competence in:
· Programs being provided meet the needs of the clientele being served
· Programs are reviewed on a structured basis at least annually and maintained, changed or terminated as the outcome determines
· New programs are developed and implemented as required
· Developing ongoing and relevant knowledge and sharing of same of the current trends in the fields of residential care, youth care
· Maintaining a thorough knowledge of similar services being offered in other communities and provinces
3. Responsible for:
· Day to day supervision of the Facility Supervisors and for their annual performance appraisal (more frequent if so required)
· Planning and implementing ongoing training for all youth care staff to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and to ensure training in current trends
· Ongoing dissemination of information of current trends in the youth care field to all youth care workers
· Knowledge and utilization of progressive youth care approaches
· Commitment to the delivery of youth care through multi-disciplinary expertise
· Ensure annual training and refresher courses are implemented on a timely basis and ensure the attendance or dissemination of information to all required staff
The work environment demands strong concentration and the ability to focus while maintaining a sensitivity and appreciation of the delicate balance required with the clientele. Work hours are based upon client needs. Must be able to work independently and under stressful conditions. Working environment often requires sensitivity to cultural, societal differences and appropriate protocols. Working conditions include physical, emotional and mental demands.
