Minimum
Qualifications:
· Possess a recognized child-care worker diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in the human services field
· Registration with the appropriate professional association
· Minimum of three (3) years direct child care experience
· Minimum of two (2) years adolescent residential experience
· Ongoing development of knowledge and skills
· Training on an annual basis to meet or exceed the standards of their professional association
· Meet or exceed the minimum requirements of the Province of Nova Scotia, Department of Community Services, Provincial Standards for Residential Child-Caring Facilities; Children and Family Services Act and Regulations;
POSITION
SUMMARY
The Facility Supervisor reports to the Coordinator of Youth Care and is responsible for the general supervision of the Child Care Team and the complete living environment as it pertains to residents and staff. The incumbent shall have a genuine concern for youth and their families and an appreciation of the issues they face and be familiar with and have an understanding of the goals and objectives of the Association. A Facility Supervisor may be expected to report to any of the ADCRF facilities and may be transferred as required.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The incumbent is accountable to all standards and expectations of the Province of Nova Scotia:

· Code of Conduct and Ethics of their professional association

In all duties and responsibilities and any delegation of tasks, the incumbent is responsible to ensure that all matters under the Provincial Standards for Residential Child-Caring Facilities which fall under their responsibilities are routinely reviewed and that the Standards are met or exceeded.
· Provide leadership to and sharing of knowledge and/or training, and support to ADCRF youth care workers and other staff as required; building and maintaining a cohesive and supportive team
· Recruit and interview (in conjunction with other ADCRF personnel as required) youth care staff
· Ensure that staffing levels meet and/or exceed minimum requirements under the Provincial Standards as the occupancy rate requires; responsible for scheduling, staff rotations and assigning tasks
· Provide direction to and supervision of Youth Care staff; kitchen, housekeeping and maintenance staff; take disciplinary action when required and conduct performance appraisals as required
· Ensure all staff are fully aware and knowledgeable of the policies and procedures of the ADCRF and the Provincial Standards; obtain written confirmation of same as required under the Policies of ADCRF
· Conduct regular meetings of the staff working in the facility
· Attend, review and facilitate, as required, regular meetings of the Youth Care Staff to ensure full exchange of information, as required, on residents
· Build ongoing and supportive relationships with all stakeholders: youth, professionals associated with ADCRF, families, placing agencies, community, etc.
· Fully participate in ADCRF committees and external committees as required
· Promote, review, evaluate and make recommendations for changes, if required, of all programs run in the facility
· Meet with all residents on a regular basis and participate in the case planning of each resident
· Support counseling, including contract, as necessary with others
· Intake and over-monitoring of intake by others
· Financial management and record keeping of all funds received and expended by Staff of the facility
· Compile information for annual budget and submit to Business Manager
· Ensure compliance with the annual budget
· Submit informative, detailed, timely reports, as required, to the Coordinator of Youth Care
· Provide, emergency, on-call support
· Maintain all personnel files and record and update as required for all absences (ie, vacation, sick time, unpaid leave, paid leave, etc.)
· Other duties as may be assigned by the Coordinator of Youth Care or the Executive Director
The work environment demands strong concentration and the ability to focus while maintaining a sensitivity and appreciation of the delicate balance required with the clientele. Work hours are based upon client needs. Must be able to work independently and under stressful conditions. Working environment often requires sensitivity to cultural, societal differences and appropriate protocols. Working conditions include physical, emotional and mental demands.
