Minimum
Qualifications:
· Possess a diploma or certificate from a recognized trade school
· Property Management experience is an asset
· Registration with the appropriate professional association of their area of child-care and other qualifications
· Ongoing development of knowledge and skills
· Training on an annual basis to meet or exceed the standards of their professional association
· Meet or exceed the minimum requirements of the Province of Nova Scotia, Department of Community Services, Provincial Standards for Residential Child-Caring Facilities; Children and Family Services Act and Regulations;
POSITION
SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the position incumbent is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of all Association buildings. The incumbent shall have a genuine concern for youth and their families and an appreciation of the issues they face and be familiar with and have an understanding of the goals and objectives of the Association.

In
all duties and responsibilities and any delegation of tasks, the incumbent is
responsible to ensure that all matters under the Provincial Standards for
Residential Child-Caring Facilities, the Children and Family Services Act and
Regulations and other legislation related to children and youth, which fall
under his/her responsibilities are routinely reviewed and that the Standards are
met or exceeded. All programs and initiatives must be consistent with the
philosophy of the Association.
· The Maintenance Supervisor is based out of the Reigh Allen Centre but may be required to travel to any of the ADCRF facilities
· Ensure all appropriate standards of safety for all maintenance staff and staff and residents of the facilities
· Maintain inventory of supplies and tools and maintain in good working order
· Responsible for the coordination of the upkeep and maintenance of all buildings of the Association
· Supervision and direction of maintenance staff; development of position descriptions
· Participates in the hiring process of part-time or casual help as needed
· Maintains and ensures accuracy of time records for all Maintenance Staff
· Ensure ordering and delivery or pick up of supplies and obtaining estimates for all work to be performed by external agencies
· Provide emergency, on call service
· Development of an ongoing maintenance plan and the submission of a detailed plan to the Executive Director for action items for the upcoming budget year; maintain accurate budget records on an ongoing basis
· Repair or arrange for the repair by qualified personnel of plumbing problems (minor or major), electrical problems and drywall repairs
· Ensure completion of any interior or exterior painting that is required
· Ensure removal of snow in winter conditions and the cutting and maintenance of grass and gardens and yard work in spring, summer and fall
· Ensure alarm system is fully operational at all times and arrange, as necessary, for immediate repair if so required.
· Ensure regular testing and checking of fire extinguishers
· Repair or arrange for repair of any appliance as required
· Ensure that any objects that may cause harm to a youth, his/her family or staff is replaced or repaired in a timely manner and safety precautions are implemented until the repair is complete (ie broken glass)
· Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of his/her own tools
· Responsible for all safety practices and ensuring maintenance staff practice these safety measures and receive training on an ongoing basis as required under the Standards or appropriate legislation
· Responsible for performing and completion of annual maintenance staff performance appraisals
The work environment demands strong concentration and the ability to focus. Work hours will be, for the most part, during the normal daily work hours. Occasionally extended hours may be required.. Must be able to work independently and under stressful conditions. Working environment often requires sensitivity to cultural and societal differences. Working conditions include physical, emotional and mental demands along with mild to severe environmental conditions.
