About Us
The Association: Registered under the Societies' Act on May 16, 1977, the Association for the Development of Children's Residential Facilities is a non-profit, community based organization. It is operated by a private Board of Directors representing various professions and the community at large.
Why? The Association was formed in response to a perceived need by child caring agencies in Halifax-Dartmouth area for a facility to serve children with emotional and behavioral problems who were clients of a Children's Aid Society or the Department of Community Services.
Operating Philosophy: The Association believes that every young person deserves a chance, and that with a caring, stable environment designed to provide help and support, each will respond in a positive manner. Instilling a sense of respect and self worth, developing self control, and learning skills to cope with everyday life will provide each youth with the opportunity to address his or her difficulties in a socially acceptable manner.
